Why accommodation deserves tighter intervals
Large shared tanks, high throughput, and summer heat combine badly. Water sitting warm in a large tank serving hundreds of residents is exactly the environment stored-water guidance is written for.
The six-month figure is a legal minimum, not a target. Many accommodation operators clean more often through summer, and that is a defensible operational decision rather than an overreaction.

Refilling after cleaning
A tank taken out of service for cleaning has to be refilled before residents need water again. On accommodation this usually means scheduling a tanker to coincide with the clean, so the tank is back in service the same day.

Only a Dubai Municipality licensed contractor may clean potable water storage. In-house cleaning is a compliance failure regardless of how carefully it is done.
Signs a tank is overdue for cleaning
You rarely get a dramatic warning. What you get is a slow drift: water that tastes flat, a faint smell when a tap is first run in the morning, or sediment settling in a glass left standing.
Signs at the tank itself are more reliable. Open the hatch and look for a sludge layer on the base, scale on the walls, biofilm as a slippery film, or anything that has fallen in through a poorly sealed lid.
Check the lid first
Most contamination arrives through a gap: a cracked lid, a missing insect screen on an overflow, or an open vent. Fixing the entry point matters more than increasing cleaning frequency.
Planning a clean around occupancy
Accommodation tanks cannot simply be taken offline. A block of residents needs water during the clean, so the sequence matters more than it does at a villa.
Where there are twin tanks, isolate and clean one at a time so supply continues. Where there is a single tank, the clean has to be timed against a delivery: drain, clean, disinfect, refill promptly, and schedule it when occupancy is lowest — usually during a day shift.
After refilling, run the outlets through so residual cleaning water is flushed from the pipework rather than standing in the lines, and record the date and the contractor. That record is what an audit will ask for.
