Labour camp water requirements dubai - Water Tankers Dubai guide

Getting labour camp water requirements Dubai sites must meet right is mostly arithmetic plus two compliance points. Occupancy sets the volume, storage capacity sets the frequency, and the water itself has to be potable and protected.

Planning figures

  • 80–150 litres per worker per day — DEWA planning range
  • 48 hours of storage required for labour accommodation and other high-consumption premises
  • Drinking, cooking and personal-use water must be potable and separated from non-potable systems

Labour camp water requirements Dubai: daily volume

Start with occupancy. DEWA design guidance uses approximately 80–150 litres per worker per day for planning. A 300-worker facility therefore plans somewhere between 24,000 and 45,000 litres a day.

Where you sit in that range depends on facilities: on-site catering, laundry, the number of ablution blocks and the season all push consumption up. Use the planning figure to size an initial schedule, then adjust against what the site actually consumes over the first fortnight.

The 48-hour storage rule

DEWA guidance requires labour accommodation and other high-consumption premises to hold 48 hours of demand, against 24 hours for standard residential.

That buffer exists for a reason. Running storage close to empty between deliveries leaves no margin for a delayed tanker, a traffic incident or a demand spike at shift change. A facility that keeps a genuine 48-hour reserve turns a potential interruption into a non-event.

Building a delivery schedule

Peak demand matters as much as daily average. Shift changes concentrate washing and kitchen use into narrow windows, so storage needs to absorb the peak rather than just meet the average.

OccupancyPlanning range/dayTypical arrangement
100 workers8,000–15,000 LOne scheduled load most days
300 workers24,000–45,000 LDaily, often multiple loads
500 workers40,000–75,000 LMultiple daily loads on a fixed slot
1,000+ workers80,000–150,000 LContract supply with agreed schedule

These are planning figures for conversation, not quotations. Share occupancy and total storage capacity and we will recommend a pattern.

Sizing supply for an accommodation block?

Send resident numbers and storage capacity. We will recommend a delivery frequency and volume, and hold a standing slot.

Potable water obligations

Water for drinking, cooking and personal use must be potable. Dubai’s construction safety code requires potable tanks and containers to be corrosion-resistant, protected from contamination and clearly marked “Safe drinking water”.

Two rules follow from that and both are absolute: containers must not be repurposed for anything else, and potable and non-potable systems must never be cross-connected. Non-potable outlets must be signed as unfit for drinking, washing or cooking in Arabic, English and the common workplace language.

TSE has no place in accommodation supply

Treated Sewage Effluent is prohibited for drinking, kitchens and bathing under UAE federal rules. It is cheaper than sweet water, which is exactly why it is worth stating explicitly on any accommodation quotation which water type is being supplied.

Tank hygiene and records

Compliant delivered water can still be contaminated by a dirty receiving tank. Dubai Municipality’s Legionella-control guidance requires potable storage tanks to be cleaned and disinfected with 50 mg/L chlorine at least twice per year.

For procurement and audit purposes it is worth recording, per delivery: supplier name, vehicle or tanker identification, water type, source, quantity, date and time, and the delivery note. Our labour camp supply service covers scheduled bulk delivery across Dubai’s industrial areas.

Frequently asked questions

How much water does a labour camp need per person per day?

DEWA design guidance uses roughly 80-150 litres per worker per day for planning purposes. Actual consumption varies with facilities, catering and climate, so use it to size a schedule and then adjust against real usage.

How much storage should labour accommodation have?

DEWA guidance requires labour accommodation and other high-consumption premises to store 48 hours of demand, compared with 24 hours for standard residential.

Does labour camp water need to be potable?

Yes. Water for drinking, cooking and personal use must be potable and protected from cross-contamination. Potable tanks must be corrosion-resistant, protected and clearly marked, and must never be cross-connected to non-potable systems.

How often should accommodation water tanks be cleaned?

Dubai Municipality guidance requires potable storage tanks to be cleaned and disinfected at least twice a year. Food premises must use an approved company and keep records.

Can you deliver to labour accommodation daily?

Yes. Scheduled daily delivery is the normal arrangement for accommodation blocks. Share occupancy and storage capacity and we will recommend a pattern.
