Most complaints about tanker pricing are not about the headline number. They are about something that was not mentioned until the driver arrived. Here is what a normal quote covers, and what does not.
Normally included
- The water itself
- Delivery to your address
- Pumping into your tank
- A standard hose run from a reasonable parking position
Anything beyond that is worth confirming in advance.

What a standard quote covers
For a typical villa or site delivery, the quoted price covers the load, the trip and discharging into your tank through the tanker’s own pump and hose. You should not be paying separately for the pump — it is part of the vehicle.
A “standard hose run” usually means the tanker can park within roughly twenty to thirty metres of your inlet on a surface it can safely stand on.
What can be charged on top
| Item | When it applies |
|---|---|
| Extra hose | Inlet is far from any legal parking position |
| Out-of-hours slot | Late night, very early morning, public holidays |
| Waiting time | Gate access, permits or a contact not available on arrival |
| Failed delivery | Tanker arrives and cannot discharge at all |
None of these are unreasonable in themselves. They only become a problem when nobody mentions them until the tanker is outside.
How to stop a quote changing on the day
- Describe the access honestly — narrow lane, rear garden, basement tank, gated community
- Say where the inlet is relative to where a truck can stop
- Confirm someone will be on site to open gates and point at the tank
- Ask directly: “is there anything that would change this price on arrival?”
A supplier who answers that question straight is usually the one to book.

What a complete quote should state
A quote you can rely on names five things: the water type, the capacity in Imperial or US gallons, the total price including pumping, any surcharge that could apply, and the delivery window.
If any of those is missing, it is not that the supplier is hiding something — it is that the quote is incomplete and can legitimately change on the day. Asking for all five in one message is normal and takes thirty seconds.
| Should be stated | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Water type | Sweet, salt and TSE price differently and suit different uses |
| Imperial or US gallons | A US gallon is about 17% less water |
| Pumping included | Should be standard, not an extra |
| Possible surcharges | Long hose, access, out-of-hours |
| Delivery window | Sets expectations and avoids waiting charges |
VAT, invoices and paying
Business customers should expect a proper tax invoice. If you are buying water for a site, a facility or accommodation, the invoice needs to state the supplier details and the VAT treatment so it can go through your accounts without a query.
For household deliveries, payment on completion is common in Dubai — once the water is in your tank. Card, transfer and cash are all normal; confirm which the supplier accepts when booking rather than when the driver is waiting.
Where you are setting up a recurring arrangement, agree invoicing terms at the start. Monthly consolidated invoicing is straightforward and saves handling a document per delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Does the water tanker price include pumping into my tank?
It normally does. The pump is part of the tanker, so discharging into your tank is usually part of the quoted price rather than an extra.
Why was I charged extra for a long hose?
If the tanker cannot park near your inlet, extra hose has to be run and the job takes longer. Mentioning the access when booking avoids this being a surprise.
Is night delivery more expensive in Dubai?
It can be. Late-night and public-holiday slots sometimes carry a premium because of driver scheduling rather than the water itself.
Do I pay if the tanker cannot deliver?
Many suppliers charge a failed-delivery fee if the vehicle arrives and cannot discharge. Confirming access in advance is the way to avoid it.
Should I pay before or after delivery?
Both are common in Dubai. Many suppliers accept payment on completion once the water is in your tank.
What should a water tanker quote include?
Water type, capacity and whether it is Imperial or US gallons, the total price including pumping, any possible surcharge, and the delivery window.
Do I get an invoice for tanker water?
Yes. Business customers should ask for a proper tax invoice stating supplier details and VAT treatment, which matters for accounts.
