Most people ordering water for the first time do not know their tank size. It takes two minutes to work out, and knowing it stops you ordering a load your tank cannot hold.
Measure it yourself
Length × width × depth in metres × 220 = approximate Imperial gallons.
A tank 2m × 1.5m × 1.5m holds roughly 990 gallons.

Typical villa tank sizes in Dubai
| Property | Common capacity | Matching load |
|---|---|---|
| Townhouse / small villa | 500–1,000 gal | 1,000 gal |
| Standard 3–4 bed villa | 1,000–2,500 gal | 2,500 gal |
| Large villa | 2,500–5,000 gal | 5,000 gal |
| Compound / multi-unit | 5,000–15,000 gal | 10,000 gal+ |
Older communities such as Mirdif and Al Barsha often have smaller GRP tanks than newer developments.
Where the tank usually is
In Dubai villas the storage tank is normally in one of three places: underground beneath the driveway or garden, on the roof, or in a side utility area. Underground tanks usually have a flush access hatch; rooftop tanks are visible.
You need to know which, because it affects delivery. Rooftop tanks need adequate pump pressure, and underground tanks need the hatch clear and accessible on the day.
Matching the load to the tank
Never order more than the tank holds. A tanker cannot leave surplus water anywhere, and you will still pay for the full load.
Equally, do not order a load that only half fills a large tank if you are going to need another delivery next week — two small loads cost more than one large one. If your tank holds 5,000 gallons and you are running low, fill it properly.

Measuring an underground tank safely
You do not need to enter the tank, and you should not. Open the access hatch, measure the internal length and width across the opening if the tank is rectangular, and use a weighted line to find the depth.
Most Dubai villa tanks are simple rectangular GRP or concrete chambers, so length × width × depth is accurate enough for ordering. Multiply the cubic metres by roughly 220 for Imperial gallons.
Never enter a water tank
Storage tanks are confined spaces. Measuring from outside the hatch is sufficient for ordering, and entering one is genuinely dangerous without training and equipment.
Working out how full it already is
Ordering well means knowing what is already in there, not just total capacity. Drop a clean weighted line to the bottom, mark the wet line, and compare it to the full depth.
Half depth on a rectangular tank is half the volume. So a 2,500 gallon tank sitting at half depth needs about 1,250 gallons to fill, and ordering 2,500 wastes half the load.
If you check the level the same way each month, you also learn your consumption rate — which is what lets you book ahead instead of ordering in an emergency.
Frequently asked questions
How many gallons does a typical villa water tank hold?
Most Dubai villa tanks hold between 1,000 and 2,500 gallons. Larger villas commonly have 2,500 to 5,000 gallon storage.
How do I work out my water tank size?
Multiply length by width by depth in metres, then multiply by about 220 for Imperial gallons.
Where is the water tank in a Dubai villa?
Usually underground beneath the driveway or garden, on the roof, or in a side utility area. Underground is the most common in newer communities.
Can a tanker fill a rooftop tank?
Yes, subject to pump pressure and access. Mention it when booking because it affects which vehicle is sent.
What happens if I order more water than my tank holds?
The surplus cannot be delivered and you still pay for the load. Measure the tank first or send us the dimensions.
How do I check how much water is left in my tank?
Drop a clean weighted line to the bottom and compare the wet mark to the full depth. On a rectangular tank, half depth is half the volume.
Can I climb into my water tank to measure it?
No. Storage tanks are confined spaces and are dangerous to enter. Measure across the open hatch instead, which is accurate enough for ordering.
Not sure what size your tank is?
Send the rough dimensions on WhatsApp and we will tell you the capacity and the right load.
