You can almost always order a small load. What you usually cannot do is pay proportionally less for it — and understanding why saves a lot of confusion when the quote comes back.
The short answer
The practical minimum in Dubai is a 1,000 gallon load. Smaller than that is rarely offered, because the cost of sending a vehicle does not fall below a floor.
A half-filled 5,000 gallon tanker usually costs close to a full one.

Why half loads rarely save money
The price of a delivery is dominated by dispatching a vehicle and a driver to your address. The water is a small part of it. Sending a 5,000 gallon tanker with 2,500 gallons in it costs the supplier almost exactly what a full load costs — same driver, same fuel, same route.
That is why suppliers quote by vehicle size rather than by the litre. If you only need a partial load, the smaller vehicle is the saving, not a partly filled larger one.
The smallest sensible delivery
| Need | Sensible load |
|---|---|
| Villa top-up between refills | 1,000–1,500 gal |
| Small villa tank, full refill | 2,500 gal |
| Pool top-up after evaporation | 1,000–2,500 gal |
| Standard villa tank | 5,000 gal |
When a bigger load is the better buy
If your tank can hold it, a larger load almost always wins on cost per gallon and means fewer deliveries to arrange. The limit is your storage, not the supplier.
Ordering more water than your tank holds is the one genuine waste — the tanker cannot leave it anywhere. Measure the tank before ordering, or send us the dimensions and we will work it out.

The one genuine waste: over-ordering
Ordering a load larger than your tank can hold is the only way to actually lose money on tanker water. The surplus cannot be left anywhere — the driver cannot decant it into the garden — so you pay for water that leaves with the vehicle.
The fix is two minutes with a tape measure. Length × width × depth in metres × 220 gives Imperial gallons. Order to that number, not above it.
If your tank is already part full when you order, subtract what is in it. A 2,500 gallon tank that is a third full takes about 1,650 gallons, not 2,500.
Fewer, larger deliveries beat frequent small ones
If you find yourself ordering every two weeks, you are paying the fixed cost of a delivery twenty-six times a year. Larger storage or a larger load cuts that to twelve or fewer.
Where storage is fixed and small, the honest answer is that frequent deliveries are simply what the property needs. But it is worth checking whether the tank is genuinely the constraint before accepting it.
| Pattern | Deliveries a year |
|---|---|
| Every 2 weeks | ~26 |
| Monthly | 12 |
| Every 6 weeks | ~9 |
Frequently asked questions
What is the smallest water tanker available in Dubai?
A 1,000 gallon load is the usual practical minimum. Smaller deliveries are rarely offered because the cost of dispatching a vehicle sets a floor.
Can I order a half-load water tanker?
Some suppliers will part-fill a tanker, but it usually costs close to a full load of that vehicle, so ordering the smaller vehicle is the better saving.
Is there a minimum charge for water delivery?
In practice yes. Even a small load carries the cost of sending a driver and vehicle, which is why very small deliveries are not proportionally cheaper.
How much water does a villa top-up usually need?
Between 1,000 and 2,500 gallons is typical for a top-up between scheduled refills, depending on tank size and household use.
Can I split one tanker between two properties?
Sometimes, if they are adjacent and both accessible on the same stop. Mention it when booking so the driver can plan the discharge.
What happens if I order more water than my tank holds?
The surplus cannot be delivered and leaves with the vehicle. You still pay for the full load, so measure the tank first.
Is it cheaper to order less often?
Usually. Each delivery carries a fixed dispatch cost, so fewer larger loads cost less annually than frequent small ones.
Not sure what size you need?
Send your tank dimensions on WhatsApp and we will tell you the smallest load that makes sense.
